Episode #58: What the f*ck to do after a breakup with Jessica Smith

PODCAST BLOG PHOTO (21).png

I am so excited to have Jessica back on the podcast to talk about BREAKUPS.

Let’s be honest — the dating world these days is tough as nails. And while Cosmo may be full of dating tips, relationship tips and sex tips, the thing we never hear about is how to navigate a breakup. Which feels SO backwards because I’d bet that 95% of you have been through one in your lives — I know I have.

And it’s gut wrenching. Heartbreaking. And there’s no support attached to that. So as always, I brought the MF support with this incredibly open and vulnerable conversation.

As a reminder, Jessica Smith is the author of YOUR TWENTIES, a book about change and how to take good care of yourself as a 20-something navigating the “real world.” Jess is the host of two podcasts, THAT VALLEY VIBE, a show about wellness and CAREER COACHING WITH JESSNESS, a show about doing your best work in the world, landing job interviews and how to build a personal brand. When she’s not writing or recording podcasts you can find her meeting with people 1:1 about how Doterra Essential Oils can positively impact their health and hosting events with her oil community, The Wellness Squad.

In today’s episode we cover topics like:

  • Her story of getting broken up with the man she thought she was going to marry

  • The 5 stages of a breakup

  • What to do when you feel like you can’t function

  • The journey back to yourself post breakup

  • Body work as a powerful positive coping mechanism

  • The answers you’re looking for? They are within you.

  • Finding closure in the most unexpected way

Episode #57: Why Celery Juice is a Load of Bullshit | A Solo Episode

PODCAST BLOG PHOTO (20).png

DO YOU STRUGGLE WITH OVEREATING?

For the longest time, food consumed my life. I was OBSESSED with every diet trend — the celery juice craze y’all are sooooo in love with? I would have 100% been on that train a few years back.

I had convinced that the only way that I could be “healthy” was to eat bird food and rock every diet trend in sight (which caused my mental health and bank account to suffer REAL quick), and eating quickly became my least favourite activity because it truly controlled my life.

Not to mention it led to years of yo yo-ing like crazy.

Why I’m so AGAINST the trendy diets and health hacks like celery juice? They more often than not ‘cause our bodies to go into distress and lead to the inverse of our intentions: OVEREATING.

Do you struggle with this too? You are SO not alone.

Now I am NOT saying this is true for everyone on the planet. We ALLLLL have different needs and triggers. But I know my gals, my overachieving all or nothing, yo yo dieter babes. If you’re not that and don’t struggle with this shiz, move on sistah ;) But if this resonates hard core, this episode is for YOU.

Things I tackle in todays episode:

  • How this trend has become so huge without any science backing it up

  • How this craze reflects a lack in critical thinking happening in society

  • The power of the placebo effect

  • My own history overcoming chronic eczema

  • Debunking the myth of this craze

Episode #53: The Power of Passive Income Through the Authentic Use of Network Marketing | A Conversation with Mallory Eden

PODCAST BLOG PHOTO (16).png

Network Marketing. MLMs.

Chances are you have a pretty strong reaction to both of those terms — either positively or negatively.

You’ve been added to a facebook group without your permission. Your ex boyfriend high school’s sister who you haven’t spoken to in 15 years started a business and reached out inviting you out of the blue. #notcool am I right?

Network marketing gets a bad rap but let me tell ya, it can (and should) be the most life changing things you will ever do for yourself if you are aligned with a mentor you love and partner with a company who’s products you believe in.

I was the biggest skeptic. I thought I was going to be scammed. Drink the koolaid and join a cult. And to be honest, I had good reason. I’d been surrounded by people who were doing it wrong and were partnered with companies that were 110% out of alignment with what I believed. But having the courage to follow my gut, and kickstart my business education with a side hustle in the network marketing space has given me so many opportunities and gifts that I couldn’t have ever imagined possible. And almost every single successful entrepreneur I know has a stream of revenue dedicated to affiliate marketing (most of which are in the network marketing realm) soooo success leaves MF clues you guys. And I’m so excited to have Mallory Eden on — an incredible woman in the network marketing space that is showing up in this business model with true authenticity.

So who is Mallory? She is a self love + holistic health advocate, and essential oils lover. Her mission is to help guide and empower women to live healthier + happier lives…on their terms and going for their dreams while thriving from the inside out. She loves reading about a million books at a time, green smoothies, coffee, a huge bowl of popcorn with a chocolate side, painting huge canvases, twinkling diffusers, Sacred Frankincense, and cuddling with her family for a movie night by the fire. Essential oils & holistic nutrition are her deepest passions. She’s been with Young Living for almost 2 years and it's been the most amazing, best surprise of her life!! She’s been constantly learning that sometimes veering off course IS THE COURSE that was meant for us all along.

Today we deep dive into allllll things network marketing, our experiences in the space and how passive income has changed our life.

Some of the main things we touch on in today’s episode:

  • Pulling back the curtain on the truth about network marketing

  • How network marketing is really just another form (and a way more lucrative form) of affiliate marketing

  • The key to living a life by design

  • The importance of vision and being authentic to yourself

  • How to overcome the fear of being perceived as scammy

  • Using this opportunity as a chance to foster community where you truly belong

PODCAST BLOG PHOTO (15).png

EPISODE SNEAK PEEK

“You can do any job for the rest of your life. But if you are not happy. If you are not fueled in your relationships. If you are not feeling like a health, happy and alive version of yourself, what is the f*cking point?”

This is a long time coming request for an episode that I’m SO freaking excited to share with you all. So many of you ask me how I started my business, had the courage to quit my day jobs and dive into entrepreneurship and how I make it work.

So today, I dish.

The good, the bad, the unexpected and all the in betweens.

‘Cause the entrepreneur life is a MF rollercoaster. It has opened up so many incredible doors for my life and I could not imagine living my life any other way now that I’m in it, but there were years when I thought it for sure wasn’t for me (and still days where I just wanna throw my hands up in the air and go f*ck it, I’m done).

But the honest truth of it is? This path has helped me uncover my purpose in life and today, I share my story and the jumping off pieces that you can use in your own life to figure out WTF your purpose (or multiple purposes? plural? who knows?) are on this planet.

You ready? Here we go.

Episode #51: Breaking the Stigma of Therapy with Rachel Wright

PODCAST BLOG PHOTO (14).png

When you hear the word therapy, does it bring up positive or negative emotions for you?

Therapy used to be something I didn’t think I needed and gave a it a major bad rap. But my perspective on the matter has changed drastically in the last few months as I’ve explored my own experience of working with a therapist. Yup, I am a major therapy convert. And I’m talking about my own experience in therapy for the first time on todays episode.

So to talk about all the things and give you the most candid conversation about a topic so polarizing, I brought back on to the podcast one of my favorite humans on the planet, therapist and sex, relationships and mental health expert Rachel Wright.

Episode #49: Mood swings, menstrual cycles and my journey of going off the birth control pill | A Solo Episode

PODCAST BLOG PHOTO (13).png

On today’s episode I’m deep diving into the past year of navigating my body and hormones after going off the birth control pill.

This time last year, I remember sitting in a coffee shop with my friend Jen talking all about the birth control pill. She had decided to go off of it 6 months prior and was sharing her experience with me and it got me thinking ... "why have I been on the pill for so goddamn long?"

I mean OBVIOUSLY to not have a baby. But the reason I went on the pill in the first place? I was 15 years old and my doctor misdiagnosed me with PCOS and said "here, just take the pill. It'll help your symptoms." And she was right, it did. And I didn't question it (and hadn't questioned it for years).

But that conversation got me thinking about how I'd been putting synthetic hormones into my body for 12 years of my life without question ('cause ya know, everyone is on the pill, right?) and that I hadn't even thought to question it.  And after my 27th birthday, after all of the medical stuff going on with me at the time, and the incredible conversation I had with Claire Baker on episode 7 of the podcast and speaking with my doctor, I decided to officially go off of the pill.

Now I want to preface this by saying this is in NO WAY a "you need to go off the pill" podcast. YOU are the only person that can make choices for YOUR body (and girlfriend, you 100% know what's best for YOU and where you're at in life), but this past year has given me SO much insight into my body and my hormonal health

So here is MY story based off of my personal findings, speaking with my trusted hormone experts, my doctor and MY BODY.

Things I cover in today’s episode:

  • My journey with the birth control pill

  • What is actually happening to your body when you’re on the pill

  • Why I decided to go off the pill and what path I decided to go with

  • The nitty gritty of what it's really like to get an IUD inserted

  • Embracing my body and learning to love myself via my menstrual cycle

  • The pressure to show up in a way that goes agains our bodies in a masculine focused world

  • Reframing cramps and our periods as positive and beautiful experiences

*edit: the Paraguard lasts 10 years not 5!

PODCAST BLOG PHOTO (12).png

To kick off a new month, we’re deep diving into everything get to know yo’ self because, let’s be honest, through all the mess that life brings, we can move further and further away from who we truly are, deep down.

IMG-3902.JPG

EPISODE SNEAK PEEK

“ We need to tend to the internalized oppression. We need to tend to all of the garbage that we’ve absorbed since the time we were born. We need to tend to our inner life and we need to bring in whether it’s joy, love, connection and to feel full to do this. Otherwise, how can we be effective instruments?”

This conversation is one of my absolute favorites. As someone who is constantly looking for ways to cultivate more joy AND more social change, these two are fostering a community that fosters a space to breed just that in a FUN and INTENTIONAL way. And I can’t wait to introduce you to this badass duo who are making waves.

Episode #46: Gut Health Matters: Heal Your Anxiety Naturally, Live Happier & Feel Your MF Best | A Solo Episode

PODCAST BLOG PHOTO (11).png

EPISODE SNEAK PEEK

“The food you’re ingesting and is being absorbed by the gut directly impacts your mental health/anxiety in profound ways.”

ANXIETY. OVEREATING.

Two things so many of us struggle with on the daily (I know I’m raising my hands), but they’re treated as SEPARATE issues.

The reality?

The two are SO freaking linked and nobody EVER talks about it. I know I have personally struggled with anxiety for YEARS and it was something that perpetuated my binge eating. I would feel anxiety coming on and I’d turn to pints of Ben & Jerry’s and all the MF chips and dips this gal could stuff in her face to numb my feelings, only to make my anxiety worse...

And the cycle continued.

Can you relate?

Maybe you struggle with both. Maybe you are living with anxiety and it’s taking over your life and you feel constantly overwhelmed, exhausted and burnt out. Maybe you’ve tried every diet under the sun and are TIRED of feeling like food is controlling you and you just want to be able to FEEL ENERGIZED and HEALTHY.

Well, YOU CAN. And it starts here.

Here are a few things I touch on in todays episode:

  • The 5 major symptoms you might have that can tell you if you’re gut is healthy

  • What healthy poops look like

  • The path out of brain fog/exhaustion

  • How I healed my eczema

  • How to overhaul your gut in just 3 days

  • 3 simple steps to support your gut health you can implement today

Episode #45: Creating Female Friendships as an Adult, NAVIGATING shame and Living Your Kickass Life with Andrea Owen

PODCAST BLOG PHOTO (6).png

EPISODE SNEAK PEEK

“If you’re engaging in the behaviors of numbing out. If you’re using alcohol or food or exercise or relationships to run away from the feeling and take the edge off. If you’re isolating and hiding out, meaning you don’t reach out for help when shit hits the fan in your life. If you’re perfecting or performing or proving, overachieving, self sabotaging. If you are participating in those behaviors, then you are doing it in an effort to avoid shame. Bottom line. So essentially shame is running your life and you don’t know it.”

Andrea Owen is an author, mentor, and professional certified life coach who helps high-achieving women let go of perfectionism, control, and isolation and choosing courage and confidence instead. She has helped thousands of women manage their inner-critic to create loving connections and live their most kick-ass life.

She is the proud author of How To Stop Feeling Like Shit: 14 Habits That Are Holding You Back From Happiness (Seal Press/Hachette Books) which has been translated into 16 languages, as well as her inaugural book, 52 Ways to Live a Kick-Ass Life: BS Free Wisdom to Ignite Your Inner Badass and Live the Life You Deserve, (Adams Media/Simon & Schuster).

When she’s not juggling her full coaching practice or hosting retreats, Andrea is busy competing in triathlons, chasing her 11-year-old son and 9-year-old daughter or making out with her husband, Jason. She is also a retired roller derby player having skated under the name “Veronica Vain”.

#43: It's Okay to Slow Down | A Busy Babe's Confession

PODCAST BLOG PHOTO (38).png

EPISODE SNEAK PEEK

“ There is power in moving towards the peace, the calm, the grounding. And moving away from the hustle and the grind and the anxiety.”

Do you struggle to slow down?

As type A, overachievers, we’ve been taught to hustle and grind to succeed in life. And slowing down? It’s HARD. And in less than two weeks, I’m going to be literally forced to do just that for an entire month.

I’ve been ruminating a lot on slowing down and been working on practicing doing just that in my own life with intention — and I hope this reminds you that slowing down is one of the most powerful things you can do for yourself.

Here are a few things I touch on in todays episode:

  • The struggle of slowing down

  • Being present with ourselves and our thoughts is something so few of us actually know how to do

  • Tapping into your inner wisdom

  • How giving ourselves the space to breathe can lead to so many incredible things

  • Some of my favorite tools to intentionally be present with myself every single day

  • Worth and work

Episode #42: Owning Your Full Potential and Facing Your Upper Limits | A Solo Episode

PODCAST BLOG PHOTO (36).png

EPISODE SNEAK PEEK

“It could envision myself having these dreams and hitting these goals, and really embodying my full potential as a human being. I could see her and she felt so freaking close. And then I got scared. And I immediately pulled back into my hole and thought 'I can’t do that. I can’t be that person.’”

Have you ever been afraid of being successful?

Of standing in your unapologetic truth?

It can be so terrifying to rise up into our full potential. And so often, we let that fear hold us back from taking any action and instead, we tell ourselves why we’re not good enough and self sabotage from moving in that direction.

I had an unexpected experience with this this week that threw me for a loop in ways I didn’t anticipate. And holy shiz balls did I hit that upper limit ceiling around the prospect of owning my full potential — because I finally had clarity around what that could look like this weekend and it scared the living crap out of me.

More in this week’s episode my loves.
